What is the purpose of this app?

APKMirror Installer serves as a user-friendly tool allowing the installation of regular APK files, as well as .apkm, .xapk, and .apks app bundle files.

Additionally, we have introduced a much-anticipated feature for regular APK files: If you encounter a sideloading failure and wish to understand the reason behind it, APKMirror Installer now provides detailed failure information when starting the installation through the app.

So, what exactly are Split APKs?

At Google I/O in mid-2018, Google revealed a new dynamic app delivery system called App Bundles. We suggest checking out this insightful article from AndroidPolice for better understanding through visual aids.

To summarize, prior to app bundles, developers faced the challenge of either creating one comprehensive "fat" APK containing all resources or managing multiple APK variants manually (such as arm64 320dpi, x86 320dpi, arm64 640dpi, etc.).

With the introduction of App Bundles, the complexity of these variants is now handled by Google, which splits the app release into several components - hence the term split APKs. As a result, each release can consist of a base APK along with several APK splits.

For instance, a single release could comprise five files: base.apk + arm64.split.apk + 320dpi.split.apk + en-us.lang.split.apk + es-es.lang.split.apk.

However, it's important to note that simply tapping on these APK splits for installation won’t work; only the base APK can be installed, which typically leads to crashes due to missing resources.

This is where APK Mirror Installer comes to the rescue.

What are .apkm files?

As numerous apps transition to the split APK format, which presents challenges for sharing and installing without an additional app, APKMirror has devised a way to adapt and maintain a seamless sideloading experience.

Each .apkm file is essentially a combination of a base APK along with various split APKs. After installing APK Mirror Installer and downloading your desired .apkm file, simply tap on it or use the app to locate it. You can view the complete contents of each .apkm file and choose the specific splits you'd like to install, helping to conserve space on your device.

Developing APK Mirror Installer and its foundational infrastructure involved a significant investment of time and resources over several months, which is why we appreciate your understanding of the ad-supported nature of the app and site. For users who prefer not to see ads, we offer several subscription options that provide an ad-free experience along with additional features.

Issues and bugs

Specific concerns for Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco MIUI users
Unfortunately, modifications to MIUI by Xiaomi have impacted the functionality of APKMirror Installer concerning the installation of split APKs.

To potentially resolve this, users can try disabling MIUI optimizations in the developer settings, which may allow installations to succeed.

For more details on the issue, please refer to this discussion: https://github.com/android-police/apkmirror-public/issues/116.

Report other issues/bugs
We encourage users to report any problems through our Github bug tracker.

Note: This utility acts as a file manager and does not provide direct app store features, such as browsing or updating apps directly, as such activities would violate the Play Store Terms of Service.
